Quando cominciai ad appassionarmi alla lavorazione manuale del legno mai avrei pensato che mi sarei spinto così oltre. Sono passati infatti quasi 10 anni da quando mi sono avvicinato a questo straordinario modo di lavorare il legno. In tutti questi anni ho avuto molte soddisfazioni ma ci sono stati anche tanti momenti difficili in cui grande è stata la tentazione di mollare tutto, soprattutto i primissimi anni in cui molta era la voglia di imparare ma tanta era anche l’inesperienza. Da questo conflitto, è pian piano scaturita la consapevolezza di ciò che avrei voluto e potuto fare con il poco tempo a mia disposizione. Mi sono dato degli obiettivi minimi, semplici da raggiungere poco per volta, senza fretta e senza il patema d’animo di chi vuole per forza raggiungere tutti i traguardi in poco tempo. È proprio con il tempo infatti che sono arrivati i risultati sperati. Perché nella lavorazione del legno, quella fatta solo con utensili manuali, come i falegnami di una volta, ci vogliono soprattutto calma, pazienza e concentrazione. Cose che, unite alla pratica, ci porteranno ad acquisire la necessaria esperienza.

Ma tutto questo non sarebbe possibile se non fossimo sostenuti dalla volontà e mossi dalla passione. Questi due fattori, assolutamente fondamentali, sono gli elementi essenziali che donano corpo e anima a tutto ciò che facciamo. E poco importa se non riusciremo mai a diventare un novello Paul Sellers, un Chris Schwartz o un Charles Hayward. L’importante è sentire dentro di noi la gioia di creare un qualcosa con le nostre mani, un oggetto unico e speciale costruito per il nostro diletto o per quello di una persona cara. Grande sarà la soddisfazione di aver dato vita ad un qualcosa che prima non esisteva, magari fatto proprio con gli stessi canoni costruttivi utilizzati dai nostri antenati, perpetuando così una tradizione millenaria di falegnameria amanuense.

In tutti questi anni Crearobi è cresciuta, assieme alla mia passione per il legno ed alla voglia di apprendere sempre di più riguardo a questo magnifico mondo. Come ho già detto altre volte non sono un professionista del settore, ne tantomeno uno scrittore o meno ancora uno youtuber. Non ho ambizioni in tal senso e non ne avrei oggettivamente le possibilità. Mi ritengo un amatore della lavorazione manuale del legno così come ce ne sono tanti, sia in rete che fuori da essa. Nella vita faccio altro per vivere e forse è proprio questo aspetto che mi ha dato la possibilità di spingermi così lontano e con ancora tanto entusiasmo da esprimere.

Proprio il fatto di non essere un maestro di falegnameria ma un semplice appassionato della lavorazione manuale del legno con la voglia di apprendere e soprattutto condividere ha creato i presupposti affinché nel 2017 nascesse la mia prima creatura, Crearobi, ovvero questo blog. Fino ad oggi nel blog ho parlato di molti argomenti, dagli utensili manuali più diffusi e usati in falegnameria, alle tecniche di lavorazione del legno, passando dalla finitura del legno fino ad alcuni semplici progetti esplicativi, focalizzandomi in particolar modo sull’affilatura. Inoltre una sezione dedicata ai quei libri che sino adesso ho letto e gradito maggiormente, sezione che spero di ampliare quanto prima. Tutto ciò che scrivo sul blog è frutto di quanto ho potuto sperimentare sul campo o appreso da fonti certe. Qualche specialista del settore certo avrà trovato delle inesattezze e qualora ce ne fossero me ne scuso. Il blog occupa sicuramente la gran parte del tempo che dedico su internet e questo perché trovare dei contenuti interessanti, imbastire l’articolo in modo esauriente e possibilmente senza errori, inserire le foto e la traduzione in inglese richiede un discreto impegno, senza considerare che da qualche tempo, avendo superato la capienza massima, la piattaforma che mi ospita richiede un canone mensile, che pago comunque volentieri in nome della divulgazione.

Dopo il blog, del quale sono molto contento perché cresciuto anche nel numero dei visitatori, ho aperto una pagina Facebook nella quale condivido i contenuti del blog ed alcuni brevi filmati dei lavori che faccio. Dal 2019 la piattaforma Etsy ospita un mio negozio virtuale nel quale espongo alcuni semplici articoli e del quale sono particolarmente orgoglioso. È stupendo pensare che un qualcosa creato da te possa essere apprezzato da un’altra persona dall’altra parte del mondo al punto tale da volerlo per se stesso o per regalarlo! E’ come trasferire una parte di noi in luoghi lontani, probabilmente mai raggiungibili fisicamente. Infine nel 2020 anche un canale Youtube nel quale postare alcuni video, di solito collegati a ciò di cui parlo nel mio blog, utili soprattutto per far vedere talune lavorazioni che talvolta mi risulta difficile far comprendere appieno solo con lo scritto.

Vorrei fare molto di più, scrivere più post sul blog, fare più video e maggiormente curati su Youtube, insomma dedicarmi oltremodo, ma al momento non mi è possibile, per le ragioni che ho detto. Se mi volto indietro vedo comunque quanta strada è stata fatta e quanta posso ancora farne grazie anche a chi, seguendo giornalmente quello che pubblico, mi stimola a proseguire e fare sempre meglio.

When I began to get passionate about woodworking by hand I never thought I would go so far. In fact, almost 10 years have passed since I approached this extraordinary way of working with wood. In all these years I have had a lot of satisfaction but there have also been many difficult moments in which the temptation to give up everything was great, especially the very first years when there was a lot of desire to learn but so much was also inexperience. From this conflict, it gradually arose  the awareness of what I wanted and could do with the little time available to me. I have set myself minimum objectives, simple to achieve little by little, without haste and without the worry of mind of those who necessarily want to reach all the goals in a short time. Indeed, it is with timethat the desired results have arrived. Because in woodworking, the what you make only with hand tools, like the ancient woodworkers, you need above all calm, patience and concentration. Things that, combined with practice, will lead us to acquire the necessary experience. But all this would not be possible if we were not supported by the will and moved by the passion. These two absolutely fundamental factors are the essential elements that give body and soul to everything we do. It doesn’t matter if we never manage to become a new Paul Sellers, a Chris Schwartz or a Charles Hayward. The important thing is to feel within us the joy of creating something with our hands, a unique and special object built for our delight or that of a loved one. Great will be the satisfaction of having given life to something that did not exist before, perhaps done with the same constructive methods used by our ancestors, thus perpetuating a millenary tradition of hand woodworking. In all these years Crearobi has grown, together with my passion for wood and the desire to learn more and more about this magnificent world. As I have said before I am not a professional in the field, nor a writer or less still one youtuber. I have no ambitions in this regard and I would not objectively have the possibilities. I consider myself a lover of woodworking by hand as there are many, both on the net and outside it. In life I do other things to live and perhaps it is this aspect that has given me the opportunity to push myself so far and with still so much enthusiasm to express. Precisely the fact of not being a woodworker but a simple enthusiast of hand woodworking with the desire to learn and above all share what I learnt created the conditions for my first creation, Crearobi, this blog, born in 2017. Up to now in the blog I have talked about many topics, from the most popular hand tools used in woodworking, to woodworking techniques, passing from wood finishing to some simple projects, focusing in particular on sharpening. In addition, a section dedicated to those books that I have read and enjoyed most up to now, a section that I hope to expand as soon as possible. Everything I write on the blog is the result of what I have been able to experience in the field or learned from certain sources. Some specialists in the sector will certainly have found some inaccuracies and if there were any I apologize. The blog certainly takes up most of the time I spend on the internet and this is because finding interesting content, basing the article comprehensively and possibly without errors, inserting photos and translating into English requires a fair amount of effort, without considering that from some time, having exceeded the maximum capacity, the hosting platform requires a monthly fee, which I gladly pay in the name of disclosure anyway. After the blog, of which I am very happy because it has also grown in the number of visitors, I opened a Facebook page in which I share the contents of the blog and some short videos of the work I do. Since 2019 the Etsy platform hosts my virtual shop in which I exhibit some simple items and of which I am particularly proud. It is amazing to think that something that you create can be appreciated by another person on the other side of the world to the point of wanting it for themselves or to give it away! It is like transferring a part of us to distant places, probably never physically reachable. Finally, in 2020 also a Youtube channel in which to post some videos, usually linked to what I talk about in my blog, useful above all to show certain processes that sometimes it is difficult for me to fully understand only with the writing. I would like to do much more, write more blog posts, make more videos and more edited on Youtube, in short, devote myself extremely, but at the moment it is not possible for me, for the reasons I have mentioned. If I look back, however, I see how much progress has been made and how much I can still do thanks also to those who, following what I publish on a daily basis, stimulate me to continue and do better and better.
