Dove siamo arrivati? / Where we arrived?

E’ passato qualche giorno dal mio primo articolo sul blog e rileggendo quanto ho scritto finora mi rendo conto di quanto sia difficile concentrare una materia tanto vasta in poche righe. Certamente potrei fornire più contenuti, magari trascrivendo le

informazioni prese da qualche libro di falegnameria o scopiazzando trafiletti dal web, ma così facendo tradirei lo spirito con il quale ho deciso di iniziare questo modestissimo blog.

Io sono un principiante hobbysta del fine settimana e non possiedo quindi alcuna esperienza professionale, ne’ approfondite conoscenze tecniche in materia, non ho frequentato scuole di falegnameria, anche se vorrei farlo, e quel poco che conosco l’ho appreso da libri e riviste del settore, spesso in lingua inglese, dai forum e i tanti video presenti on line.

Con queste poche nozioni, ma armato di tanta passione e buona volontà’, passo il mio poco tempo libero assieme ai miei fedeli attrezzi manuali, acquistati poco per volta quando il progetto che avevo per le mani ne richiedeva l’utilizzo. Strumenti per la maggior parte usati, ma di qualita’, quando mi era oggettivamente possibile trovarli.

Il mio obbiettivo non è quello di insegnare niente a nessuno (anche perché non ne avrei la competenza), ne’ di scrivere riguardo a cose che non ho sperimentato di persona, ma quello di condividere, per quanto possibile, quel poco di esperienza  personale che mi sono fatto con il tempo e che e’ segnata da successi (pochi) e da insuccessi (molti). Quindi se cercate un maestro da seguire o comunque un professionista, qualcuno che sia del mestiere e sappia dipanare tutti i vostri dubbi, dovrete purtroppo rivolgervi altrove. Io posso permettermi di parlare soltanto di quello che ho potuto sperimentare in prima persona, le impressioni, le considerazioni e le conclusioni che ne ho tratto, insomma poche cose, semplici ed essenziali.

In questo blog quindi si parlerà  poco o niente di attrezzature elettriche, che comunque possiedo e che trovo indispensabili per certe lavorazioni, ma verso le quali provo sempre un certo timore. Si parlera’ invece quasi esclusivamente di quelle lavorazioni fatte con gli attrezzi manuali, di quei lavori compiuti prendendosi tutto il tempo possibile, per la semplice soddisfazione di riuscire a creare con le proprie mani un qualcosa che possa durare, che sopravviva a noi stessi, al tempo che stiamo vivendo.

Finora abbiamo parlato della tracciatura e degli utensili che servono per farla. Abbiamo accennato al righello, al flessometro, alla matita e parlato del coltello, delle squadre e del truschino. Seguendo un ordine logico la vera e propria lavorazione del legno comincia da adesso in poi. La tracciatura e’ preparatoria della sezionatura del legno e l’attrezzo adatto per questa operazione e’ la sega.

It’s been a few days since I write my first article on this blog and reading what I’ve written till now I realize how difficult it is to concentrate such a huge subject in a few lines.

Certainly I could provide more content, perhaps by transcribing information from a woodworking book or by sneaking through the web, but doing so I would betray the spirit which I decided to start this modest blog.

I’m a weekend DIY and I do not have any professional experience and in-depth technical knowledge on this subject, I did not attend woodworking schools, although I would like to do it, and the very little things I know I learned from books and magazines, often in English, from forums and many videos online.

With these few notions, but with so much passion and goodwill, I spend my free time with my faithful hand tools I bought little at a time when the project I had for my hands required the use. Most used tools, but quality ones, when I could afford them.

My goal is not to teach anyone (even because I do not have the competence), nor to write about things I did not have own experience but to share, as much as possible, the little personal experience that I again during the past and that is marked by successes (few) and failures (many). So if you are looking for a master to follow or a professional, someone who is in the trade and know how to break all your doubts, you will unfortunately have to go elsewhere. I can only talk about what I have been able to experience, the impressions, the considerations and the conclusions I have inferred a few simple and essential things.

In this blog we will talk very little or nothing of electric machines, that I own and find indispensable for certain processes, but toward which I always feel a certain fear. We will talk the most of hand woodworking, taking our time to do things for the satisfavtion of being able to create with our own hands something that can last, and survive to ourselves, to the time we are living.

Till now we talked about tracing and the tools we need to do it so the flexometer, pencil, ruler, squares, knife and marking gauges. Following a logical order tracing is only the beginning and only prepare the wood for the next stage, the cut. The tool for this work is the saw.
