Da dove iniziare? / Where to begin?

Quello che scrivo si basa essenzialmente sulle esperienze personali e quindi, in quanto tali, non sono dogmi assoluti. Quando ho cominciato a fare i primi lavoretti sono state delusioni a ripetizione. Solo la passione ed un po’ di volontà mi hanno permesso

di resistere alla tentazione di mollare tutto. Con il tempo mi sono reso conto che la maggior parte dei miei insuccessi era dovuta principalmente a scarsa manualità ed inesperienza ma anche dal non essermi dotato delle giuste attrezzature. Oltre a possedere oggettivamente pochi attrezzi, questi erano anche di scarsa qualità. Perciò il primo consiglio che mi sento di dare e’ di cominciare da piccoli e semplici progetti, fatti con calma e con i giusti attrezzi di buona qualità. Una volta individuato il lavoro che si vuole fare si passa all’acquisto delle attrezzature.

Quindi, assodato che devono essere di buona fattura e che dobbiamo cercare attrezzature specifiche per lavorare il legno (escludiamo quindi cacciavite, pinze, ecc, che già dovremmo avere ) cosa dobbiamo scegliere?

Sotto una piccola lista di attrezzature che, secondo il mio modesto parere, sono comunque fondamentali.

– Righello in acciaio e flessometro;
– Squadra combinata e falsa squadra;
– Scalpelli di varie dimensioni;
– Martello in legno o con testa in gomma;
– Matita e gomma;
– Coltellino da tracciatura;
– Seghe di varie dimensioni;
– Graffietto;
– Pialle;
– Banco con morsa;
– Pietre e guida per affilatura;
– Morsetti varie dimensioni;
– Colla;
– Lime e Raspe;
– Carta Vetrata varie grane.

La lista sarebbe molto più’ lunga e personalizzabile ma per cominciare penso che questi elencati sopra siano sufficienti.

When I started doing the first projects I was reproving disappointments. Only the passion and a bit of will have allowed me to resist the temptation to give up everything. By the time I realized that most of my failures were mainly due to lack of manual and inexperience but also because I did not have the right equipment. In addition to having objectively few tools, these were also of poor quality. So the first advice I feel about giving is to start from small, simple projects, made with calm and with the right tools of good quality.

Once you find the project you want to do, go to the equipment purchase. So, determined that they must be of good design and that we have to look for specific equipment to work on wood (not include screwdrivers, pliers, etc., which we should already have available) what should we choose to start with?

Below a small list of equipment which, according to my own opininion, are fundamental to start with:

– Steel ruler and flexometer;
– Combination/try square and Sliding square;
– Chisels of various sizes;
– Wooden hammer or rubber head;
– Pencil and rubber;
– Tracing knife;
– Saws of various sizes;
– Marking gauge;
– Plane;
– Bench with a vise;
– Stones and sharpening guide;
– Various clamps;
– Glue;
– Files and Rasps;
– Abrasive paper of various sizes.

The list would be much longer and customizable but to start with I think those listed above are sufficient.
