Niente di nuovo sotto il sole / Nothing new under the sun

…direte voi, ed è comprensibile. La rete è già piena zeppa di informazioni di ogni sorta riguardanti l’artigianato che sembra che niente sia più da dire e da mostrare che non sia già stato precedentemente sviscerato in ogni suo aspetto.

Allora perché? Vorrei fare una piccola premessa. Questo blog e’condiviso con mia moglie Roberta, lei è’ l’ appassionata di decoupage ed io della lavorazione manuale del legno. Quindi quando vedrete post sul legno saro’io, se vedrete post sul decoupage sara’ lei.  Detto questo molto probabilmente il blog sarà quasi completamente scritto da me, per l’idea che ho di condurlo ovvero mostrare il work in progress fino al prodotto finito.

Quindi mi presento: mi chiamo Giorgio e sono un’indegno appassionato di falegnameria, quella fatta esclusivamente (o quasi) con l’ausilio di utensili vintage, quelli che si trovano nei mercatini dell’usato per intendersi.

Non sono un professionista del settore, tutt’altro, sono il classico hobbista del fine settimana, mosso da una sana voglia di imparare una materia sconfinata e magnifica. Niente maestro quindi, ma dilettante assoluto al servizio della comunità.

L’idea, che sta maturando mentre scrivo queste mie prime righe, e’ quella di far conoscere la lavorazione manuale del legno, come veniva praticata dai falegnami di una volta attraverso l’utilizzo di utensili manuali.

Oggi non molte persone conoscono il significato di parole come, saracco, vastringa, girabacchino, sbozzino. Probabilmente avranno sentito parlare di pialla, scalpello, sega e lima senza però conoscerne bene l’utilizzo. E’ proprio per questo che vorrei accendere la curiosità di qualcuno, puntando i riflettori su un’attività, quella di falegname vecchia maniera, che sta lentamente sparendo.

La passione che da qualche anno mi accompagna verso questo antico mestiere mi ha spinto dopo molti tentennamenti a provare a dire qualcosa di nuovo e cercare di organizzarlo attraverso post mirati che parlino degli utensili, della loro affilatura, delle tecniche di lavorazione del legno, dei progetti e dei prodotti finiti.

Ma non solo parole, ma anche immagini,  che mostrino come vengono effettuate le varie lavorazioni e, per quanto nelle mie possibilità, anche una traduzione in lingua inglese, ma con l’aiuto di google traduttore😜

Quanti buoni propositi vero?

Nothing new under the sun… tell you, and it’s understandable. The web is already full of information of all kind about craftsmanship that seems to have nothing more to say and to show that it has not been previously scattered in every aspect of it.

Then why? Just a little premise. I share this blog with my wife Roberta. She is a decoupage enthusiast, while I am an enthusiast of woodworking bay hand. So when you find a post talking about decoupage it’ s her her and if you read a post about woodworking then it’s me. That said it will be me that lead the blog and write the most because I want to show a the work in progress blog from the start to the finished product.

Something about me: my name is Giorgio and  I am an enthusiast of woodworking by hand, made with vintage hand tools that you can find at the flea markets.

I claim that I’m not a professional in the industry, anyway, I am the classic hobby man of the weekend, driven by a healthy desire to learn a boundless and magnificent subject. No master therefore, but absolute amateur at the service of the community.

The idea, which is maturing as I write these first lines, is to introduce manual woodworking, as was done by woodworkers once through the use of manual tools.

Today, not many people know the meaning of words such as, saracco, vastringa, girabacchino, sbozzino. Probably they know about planes, chisels, saw, file but they don’t know how to use them. For this reason I want to talk about woodwork by hand that is disappearing and turn on the lights on this fantastic job.

The passion that has been accompanying me to this old profession for a few years has pushed me after many attempts to try and say something new and try to organize it through targeted posts that talk about tools, their sharpening, woodworking techniques, projects and finished products.

But not just words, but also pictures, showing how the various workings are done and, as far as I can, a translation into English but with the google translator help.

How many good intentions, isn’t it?
